Trusted Choice's USAA Insurance Score

4.5 Stars
We award USAA a final rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars. The carrier has been around for more than a century, which is noteworthy within the insurance industry. USAA has the highest possible rating for financial strength from AM Best and an excellent rating by the Better Business Bureau (BBB). However, the carrier loses a couple of points due to its lack of BBB accrediation and the volume of complaints filed against it in recent years.
USAA was founded in 1922 by a group of Army officers who decided to insure each other’s vehicles. Since then, USAA has expanded to service millions of customers across the country with a variety of coverage solutions, including homeowners insurance, umbrella insurance, business insurance, life insurance, commercial auto insurance, health insurance, and more.
In 2019, USAA’s net worth surpassed $35 billion. By the end of that same year, the insurance company had 13 million members (i.e., policyholders) and 35,000 employees and had paid out $2.4 billion in returns to its customers. USAA has consistently received high marks from major credit rating agencies, such as an “AAA,” or exceptional, rating from Moody’s Investors Service and an “AA+,” or very strong, rating from Standard & Poor’s. AM Best rates the insurance company as having an exceptional long-term outlook.
While coverage availability is limited to military members and their families, the carrier provides a multitude of insurance products for this niche of customers. USAA's motorcycle insurance has been highly rated by customers across the web. Further, despite the somewhat mixed customer feedback, many folks leave glowing reviews and report excellent experiences with the carrier’s customer service and coverage alike.
USAA also provides one of the best user-friendly experiences around with an excellent website and simple claims filing process. The carrier's insurance policies are available nationwide. Overall, we say that if you qualify for coverage and are in need of any of their products, don’t hesitate to look into USAA with your independent insurance agent to be your next trusted insurance company.
